“Digicel Cayman hands over CI$10,000 cheque”

GEORGE TOWN – CAYMAN (4th May, 2011) – Cayman’s Bigger, Better network was applauded for their commitment to the Special Olympians in Cayman.  At a training session held at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex on Tuesday, 3rd May 2011 Digicel’s CEO – Victor Corcoran and his Marketing team joined in the team warm up session and handed over a cheque in the amount of ten thousand dollars (CI $10,000) to Bocce Head Coach – Nicole Thompson, representing the members of the organizing committee and a group of Special Olympians.

The enthusiastic group of Olympians  took time-out of their busy schedule of preparing for the games, to rap and interact with the Digicel team.  They were observed practising and putting the finishes touches on their physical preparations.

In addition to the financial donation, Digicel staff will be volunteering their services to assist in areas of athletics, aquatics and bocce (a game of Italian origin similar to lawn bowling played with wooden balls on a long narrow court) during the local games from May 4-7, 2011 at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

“Digicel has been a major sponsor of Special Olympics throughout the Caribbean since launch and we are proud to add our commitment to Special Olympics here in Cayman,” said Victor Corcoran, CEO of Digicel Cayman.

“As the athletes prepare to compete at the 2011 Summer World Games in Greece, we appreciate and recognize that tournaments of this nature can be an expensive venture, as such we are happy to make this valuable donation of ten thousand CI$10,000 to help make this trip possible.”

“This ranks as one of the most important, rewarding and fulfilling sponsorships we have, as it gives us at Digicel an opportunity to give children an experience that they would not be able to have under normal circumstances.”

“We at Digicel would like to wish the Special Olympians success this week in the National Games and in Greece this June,” said Digicel Cayman CEO – Victor Corcoran.

About seventy (70) Special Olympians will be attending the 2011 Summer Olympic Games which will be held in Greece this June.

Digicel wishes the Special Olympians every success at the Latin America Invitational and echoes the sentiments in their motto, “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
